A Family of Friends (A time of emo-ing)

It's really been ages since I've last blogged and boy does time fly. I've been quiet only because I've just been "superdy duperdy" busy. Assignments, friends and now coming up is exams. I guess life in Curtin is in a way awesome, but then again... sometimes when shit happens it just makes me want to run home and live my life the way i used too, without all the problems I get in Uni.

However so, in Curtin, I've found a whole bunch of awesome people who I can really trust and whom I call my family. A family of friends who cares and who just takes me for who i am and I thank God for sending them into my life. Lingesh, Jiva, Sundara, Manpreet, Dilendri and Ashweny what would i do without you guys. You guys have been my rock, my comforters and the best jokers I could ever ask for. Naveen, Surin, Jaya, Jia Chyi, Eswaran and Kader, you guys have also made my semester in Curtin a fun and enjoyable experience. I'm really gonna miss you all during the 3 months break and hopefully when we are back you won't have forgotten me.

LINGU:  hahaha your proposal day OMG!! Boy was I kinda jealous, hahaha but I loved every minute of it, thank you for letting me witness something so sweet and exciting, brother you are the best!

DEE: You're the best ever girl friend I could ask for in Curtin. you're always there for me through thick and thin ^_^ ur like a  sister to me and btw "mama oyata aderei"!! Hehehe... Know that i'm always here for you too and the funny sasau moments we have together this semester, hopefully we can have the same next semester and cross my fingers we'd be in the same house that;ll be just awesome.

PREETI: SISTA!!! hahaha... you're just the most adorable sister, we have about the same thinking and that's just sasau hahhaa.. you're always there when I need a friend, or a shoulder to cry on. We'd we talking about hindi movies and when I'm pulling an all-nighter you'd be online accompanying me somehow haha... the jokes we share and the fun awesome moments like JCW we had this semester is just priceless.. Thanks so much my sis, I'm gonna miss you this 3 months break and hopefully when I'm back you won't have forgotten me and we'll have many more priceless moments next semester ^_^

SUNDARA: Dear brother, the big brother, the poet and the sasau-est in the group. Thanks for the jalan-jalan time and for all the advice you've given me. Heck I dunno how crazily "emo" I would be without you and your comforting advice. The times when I was feeling the worst, you'll always be there asking "kenapa hang muka panjang?" hahaha and you'll listen to my problems no matter how annoying it can get at times (yes I know and I'm sorry ^_^) and at the end there'll always be a totally cool sounding quote that relates to the situation. Awwww gonna miss you this 3 months brother!

You're just the best awesomest housemate ever!!! Hahaha.. my shoulder to cry on, and a dear dear friend. Know that even if we're not in the same house next semester, I'll still be nearby so just knock on my window or gimme a call, anytime. I won't forget that night I knocked on your door and ended up crying about something totally stupid and you blasted me for it hahaha that set me straight. Should I Be Proud or Stressed Out?

10.30am on the 13th of July, I accompanied my aunt to her clinic appointment. While waiting for her I took the liberty to read 'The Star' newspaper and I came across many interesting articles, some made me laugh and some made me think "what on earth is wrong with today's world.." but those stories I'll save for a later post.

For now however I shall explain to you why my latest post is titled as such. In the newspaper I came across a list of the 18 "excellent" public and private university colleges in the country. These colleges are rated tier 5 (so far no college is rated tier 6 which is the the highest rank) and here's the list in alphabetical order :

1. Curtin University of Technology Sarawak
2. International Islamic University Malaysia
3. International Medical University
4. Management and Science University
5. Monash University Sunway Campus
6. Sunway University College
7. Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus
8. Taylor's University College
9. The University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus
10. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia
11. Universiti Kuala Lumpur
12. Universiti Malaya
13. Universiti Multimedia
14. Universiti Putra Malaysia
15. Universiti Sains Malaysia
16. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
17. Universiti Teknologi Mara
18. Universiti Teknologi Petronas
Note the one highlighted... that's the college I'll be attending, doing a foundation in Mass Communications.
Curtin University of Technology Sarawak Campus

When I attended the pre-departure briefing last Friday I was told that studying in Curtin will not be easy and I shouldn't expect to pass easily without MUCH effort. The passing mark is high and expectations on the students are higher. Therefore my dilemma... I have always had a problem with studying, may it be revising or doing exercises. My attention span for studying is about as long as the attention span of a year old baby....okay so I'm exaggerating a little. I'd say the longest I can actually focus on studying with no distractions is for just half an hour not more. See my problem??? Hopefully I'll be able to concentrate more as I have the interest and the passion for anything 'mass com'. My future depends on me hitting the books and not to fiddle as Rome burns.

So conclusion.... am I proud or stressed out?

Well as for now I'm proud that I'll soon be attending one of the top tiered colleges in Malaysia! It's a blessing and a golden opportunity and I pray to God that I won't waste this chance of a lifetime. I'll be leaving for college on the 28th of July and Orientation starts on the 2nd of August and I'll only be back home in December for semester break... Ok come to think of it... maybe I am a little stressed out... Eeek HELP!!

It Was There All Along....

So I checked out my friend's blog today and I noticed a cool widget on his that says 'Reactions:' then there's 'cool', 'interesting' and 'funny'. Being a total noob at blogging (proof is how much I've written on my blog) and its settings, I busted my brains trying to figure out how on earth can I get that 'Reactions' thing for my blog. I googled, searching all over the web for it and finally I came to a blog that could help me. When I read the instructions on how to get it i got confused. It took me ages to finally figure out that it was in the 'design' tab and under 'page elements' all I had to do is click 'Edit' on the part that says 'Blog Posts'. I did that and voila all my posts now has the reactions thing. Oh gawsh and to think I spent wasted minutes (almost half an hour) looking all over for it on Blogger and Google when it was there all along! So if you're like me (i doubt it) and you're trying to look for the reactions thing for your blog. Save some of your precious time and just do what I described....

Chivalry ISN'T Dead!!

It doesn’t really take much to make a girl feel happy and appreciated. I guess in some ways you can say girls are actually simple creatures. Hah! Who am I kidding, we're the most complex of all God's creations, in my own opinion, I think that sometimes we might not even understand ourselves.... Yes, we are that complex. But one thing that I dare say though, is that every woman/girl appreciates a little bit of chivalry every now and then. It makes us feel nice and it puts a smile on our face, can't really explain why, but it just does.

A few months ago when I was at the bakery with my mom, I saw a young man exiting the shop and there was an old lady who was walking slowly towards the exit. Now this frail looking old lady really had her hands full with her shopping and on top of all that the glass door was quite difficult to open. I expected the boy to hold the door open for her, since he knew she was leaving and he was already standing there anyway, why not spare a few minutes helping her hold the door open. Even if he didn’t have a few minutes to spare, he could have just opened the door wide enough for it to stay open. Instead he pushed the door open, went out and immediately let go of the door which swung back and almost hit the old lady, who luckily backed up in time to avoid getting hit in the face. Since I was just standing there doing nothing, I quickly went up to her and helped open the door for her. She smiled and thanked me. Randomly that incident came to mind and it got me thinking, why can’t men be a little more considerate and nice to women? Is it true that Chivalry is dead?

Thank goodness I can say and I do have proof that it is undoubtedly not dead. It’s just nearing extinction. Yesterday morning I had accompanied my mother to the bank and I was lagging behind as I was replying to a text message, so by the time I reached the door she was already inside. A young man pushed the glass door open just as I was going to go in so I stopped and let him pass. I was expecting him to let go of the door and I was prepared to grab it if it swings back. But the kind and if may I add, good looking (Abigail would at this point say gigglesnort) man just stood there, held the door open for me and gave me a smile and a nod. I thanked him and hurried inside and I was quite surprised and a little flustered by his actions; I mean come on, how often does a guy hold a door open for me? Let me answer that….Very rare and hardly ever happens….

So for all guys who are in a relationship, try being chivalrous once in a while. Hold the door open for her, offer to carry her bag when she’s shopping (it does not make you look gay) and offer her your jacket when it’s cold. She’ll appreciate the gestures and will love you more for it. Don’t believe me? Try asking any girl you know and see what she says about it. Girls tend to envy other girls whose boyfriends treat them like princesses. Don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to pretend to be a perfect gentleman; nobody likes that, if you don’t already know. Just be yourself because there’s nothing worse than a fake. For the guys who are not in a relationship at the moment, there is no harm in being chivalrous too. Just consider it as practise for when you do get a girlfriend. When it all comes down to it, Chivalry is not just about opening doors and helping to carry bags. It's a whole attitude of treating someone with the respect and dignity they deserve. So it shouldn’t be that hard and it shouldn’t be limited to girlfriends and dating….Right?

Interviewers trying to be cool

Just recently, I've been thinking.... why do some interviewers think It's cool or right to tease the interviewee? Well maybe a little teasing is alright but most of the time it just goes too far. For example, just this morning I was tuning in to a radio station to hear my fellow friends on air. I was annoyed by the interviewer who made some jokes that can be considered quite insulting. I mean is it right to say things like, "I know people your size will....", "Oh changing yourself...you mean your clothes?" that's only the few that I can mention right now. However this is not the first time I've heard interviews of this sort. There is a reason for the interview in the first place, it could be for promoting something or for getting to know a person. So why should the interviewee be belittled just because the interviewer wants to act cool or feel almighty (due to whatever reason).

In my opinion, I'd rather hear an informative interview that isn't too serious nor too playful. There should be a balance between the two, keeping the interview light with a few teasing jokes and keeping the insulting comments to a bare minimum. Even if you're the best interviewer in town with the best show on air, I think people will think thrice before agreeing to an interview with you. I mean come on! who on earth do you think you are? Interviewees try not to fear interviews from hell, heck maybe sometimes you just gotta butt in and drag them "high and mighty" interviewers back to earth. For example.....

Interviewer: So (*insert name here*) since we're talking about food, I'm sure you have lots of favourite dishes here in town, I mean look at you *laughs jokingly* do tell us.
Interviewee: Thank you for that biting comment, I didn't know (*insert purpose of interview
here*) had anything to do with my size *says politely and sweetly* well I do have lots of favourites as you just said.......

Question to you that's reading this rambling of mine, would you actually prefer listening to something that is full of crap due to all the insulting comments and jokes or would you listen to something light, entertaining and informative? Oh and comments most welcome as always...
